ARTIST BIO
My name is fran angiulo and I have been a designer and painter for over 30 years. In the past few years I have worked on series of paintings called "Buried Alive" a group of large abstract multi-media canvases focusing on the plight of the homeless in Portland Oregon.
"If you hear a voice within you say you cannot paint. Then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced"
Vincent Van Gogh
BURIED ALIVE
The Homeless Project
Children, women, and men without homes have become embroidered within the collective un-conciseness of modern living…so that this tragic epidemic has ceased to be its own sad entity; and only shadows a footnote as faded punctuation in our mundane conversations about conversations. Blended and amalgamated images rarely attract attention, as marginalized aliveness is entombed behind the façade of successful and happy neighborhoods. These families and individuals are quietly crying to have their own identities and to achieve focus.
My art work is an attempt to drag homelessness into clearer view while condemning the process by which it continues to be ignored.
Artist Statement
I have always been an artist and have created many design concepts in my past work experience. Over the past few years, I have focused on abstract paintings, working with others at PSU to achieve my artistic goals.
Recently, I developed and created a series of eight larger canvases depicting the entombed marginalized victims of homelessness. These paintings emotionally represent my anger about society’s lack of support for these human beings.
